Introduction to the course
Welcome
This course will provide you with an
overview of the major developmental theories from conception through
adolescence. We will explore current developmental theories that
explain developmental processes focusing on the following: cognitive,
social, physical and language. This course should be fun, challenging
and engaging.
The goals of the course are as follows:
- To provide students with an
opportunity to support their learning of relevant child development
theory with online forum discussion and practical applications.
- To assist student in their
understanding of the role that theory plans in better understanding
children and meeting their needs.
- To expose students to various stage
related theories that better explain the progression of development from
infancy through adolesence.
- To better understand the ways
in which culture, child rearing practices and societal practices impact
the progression of development.
