1. In your own words, describe each of the three historical views (philosophies) of childhood (i.e., tabula rasa, original sin, and innate goodness views). Each of these views suggests a different way to raise children. Which view do you most agree with and how would that impact your approach to child-rearing? Be sure to FULLY explain your answer. 2. What do we mean by the "nature vs nurture" debate? Is this a "debate" that still exists today? Using an example, explain your position. (3 points)

3. With respect studying change over time, explain what a cross-sectional study is. Give an example of a cross-sectional study that might be used in the study of how individuals change over time. Explain how the study would be conducted. Note that your example must be appropriate and ethical. What limitations are there to this approach to the study of development? (3 points)

4. Explain how an experimental study differs from a correlational study. Provide an example of each to illustrate your understanding. Note that your examples must be realistic and possible, practically and ethically. (4 points)

5. What is the difference between "qualitative" and "quantitative" change? Explain and give an example of each to illustrate your understanding. Remember, as always, that you must use your own words. (2 points)

6. What research method involves the use of dependent and independent variables? Identify the research method and, using an example that is relevant to the study of development, explain both of these terms. Note that your example must be appropriate and ethical. (4 points)
